Mark O'Connor's jazz performances and compositions pay tribute to his friend and mentor; the legendary French jazz master Stéphane Grappelli. While performing a number of tunes closely associated with Grappelli, O'Connor's albums and live performances extend the repertoire with O'Connor's original compositions. Hot Swing continues to celebrate acoustic string jazz in new and exciting ways. The Hot Swing trio consists of Mark O'Connor, violin; Gary Mazzaroppi, bass; Frank Vignola, guitar. Swing singer Tamar Korn added vocals to the ensemble.
Grammy Award-winning violinist/composer/fiddler Mark O'Connor is widely recognized as one of the most gifted contemporary composers, regularly collaborating with Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer and jazz greats. Mark O'Connor incorporates many musical styles and genres into a sound that is uniquely his own.
"No matter what he plays, when you're listening to O'Connor, you know you're listening to genius." —THE SEATTLE TIMES
Fiddle Camp at 5:30 pm in Washburn Hall
Mark O'Connor had graciously agreed to host a post-concert mini "fiddle camp" for any audience member who would like to bring his/her own violin. All ages welcome! This event was a great success.
