The Worcester Chorus, under the direction of Christopher Shepard will present a selection of choral music that celebrates and pays tribute to those who have served our great nation.
Soloists will include soprano Christine Laird, baritone Malcolm J. Merriweather, who received critical acclaim as a soloist with the chorus for the 2013 Handel's Messiah performance, and bass-baritone Stephan Barnicle.
Randall Thompson's Testament to Freedom celebrates the bicentennial of Thomas Jefferson's birth with lyrics taken from his writings, and presents an uplifting view of our nation during times of war. Ralph Vaughan Williams' well-known Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace), composed in response to World War I, draws from Walt Whitman reflections on the Civil War. Paul Moravec's Songs of Love and War are settings of letters of American servicemen and their loved ones.
There will be a pre-concert lecture by Steven Ledbetter in the First Unitarian Church sanctuary at 7:15 PM prior to the show. All ticketholders are welcome to attend.
