Music Worcester presents this season's international ballet, Cinderella, performed by the Russian National Ballet, on Friday, April 14th.

Full-length Ballet in Two Acts     Music by Sergei Prokofiev     Libretto: Nicolai Volkov

Choreography by Rostislav Zakharov

One of the most famous of all stories, this Cinderella production features Prokofiev's endearing setting of the fairy tale. 

Cinderella composed by Sergei Prokofiev to a scenario by Nikolei Volkov It is one of his most popular and melodious compositions, and has inspired a great many choreographers since its inception. The piece was composed between 1940 and 1944.The premiere of Cinderella was presented in 1945 at the Bolshoi Theatre with choreography by Rostislav Zakharov. Galina Ulanova danced the title role. Cinderella (or Cendrillon) is notable for its jubilant music, lush scenery, and for the hilarious double-roles of the stepsisters, more mad than bad in this treatment.

The RNBT was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980's, when many of the great dances and choreographers of the Soviet Union's ballet institutions were exercising their new-found creative freedom by starting new and vibrant companies dedicated not only to the timeless traditon of classical Russian Ballet but to invigorate this tradtion
