Inspiring Week

Student from Worcester Academy of Music playing in the lobby of Mechanics Hall before the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra Concert.

A week has passed since I last posted on the blog and there is so much to discuss. My youngest son, Warren (almost 14 years) joined me last weekend for the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra concert and loved it. Students and faculty from Worcester Academy of Music graced our lobbies with music as we entered Mechanics Hall (see photo). Warren and I spent the first half of the concert on the floor, and then decided to watch the second half from the balcony. The balcony was the place to be - amazing to look down into the orchestra and see each musician at work. The musician who played the timpani was definitely the highlight. It was incredible the way he tuned the instrument while the orchestra was playing! On Sunday, my son locked himself into a room with his guitar and wrote his first song - feeling inspired, I guess!

Midge and I attended a band concert at the Goddard Scholars Academy at Sullivan Middle School on Tuesday night. This is a magnet school geared toward high-achieving 7th and 8th grade students - just 48 in each grade. All students are required to participate in band and music is part of the class schedule. The students played songs and shared peoms they wrote about Martin Luther King Jr. The poems were extremely insightful! Music Worcester is looking to "adopt" this school next year as part of our outreach and education initiative and are very excited about strengthening our relationship with the students and faculty. I love these kind of partnerships as I believe they provide so much value to the community at large.

Today, our new media marketing intern from Worcester State (Anthony) was in the office creating a social media marketing plan. In addition to enhancing our presence on the web, Anthony will be videotaping different elements of our concerts and creating promotional materials. It is so nice to have fresh eyes and ideas - nice to have a different perspective. Keep an eye on all of our web-based marketing - great things happening.

Have a wonderful weekend!
