One Musician Creating Change in his Little Corner of the World!

Wil Darcangelo and The Tribe performing during intermission.

If you attended last Saturday's Worcester Chorus Concert: Bach's B Minor Mass and went down to Washburn Hall for intermission, you probably witnessed a group of teenagers performing a very quirky rendition to the Queen song "We Will Rock You, " appropriately renamed "We Will Bach You." This performance included harmonies, rapping, and body drumming, as well as beautiful gospel vocals from a young woman who is visually impaired. This group of kids, students and alumni from Fitchburg High School, are part of a group called The Tribe, led by singer/songwriter Wil Darcangelo. Wil (also know for his nonprofit called Good-Wil) donates his time to work with these kids after school. The group of about 20 kids includes what society would label "high-risk" and "special needs." Wil, however, recognized their strong connection to music and sees their potential, instead of their risk-factors. To me, Wil represents the change that needs to happen in this country. If every adult found a way to use their own gifts to work with youth to help them discover their potential, we would certainly have less kids in gangs, using drugs, and a much lower suicide rate among teens. I would imagine more kids would also stay in school and go to college. When we make change starting in our own little corners of the world, that change will grow and grow with every life that is touched. Whether you are a musician, an artist, an athlete, a programmer, a shop keeper...I challenge you to find a way to take your gifts and your passions and change your little corner of the world.

It is not the best recording (especially the sound), but it will give you a peek into the power of music in these kids lives!
