Overview

Under the critically acclaimed leadership of its artistic director and violin soloist Miklos Szenthelyi, the Hungarian Virtuosi Orchestra validates its claim of virtuosity – their name is no idle boast. Every performance is spirited, highly polished and of rare beauty.

Formed in late 1988 by Miklos Szenthelyi, along with the graduating students of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, the orchestra consists of string musicians who have built a vast repertoire with emphasis on romantic compositions. Said Miklos, "Since its foundation, the orchestra has done more than 50 tours and has given more than 5000 performances."

Miklos, who graduated from the Academy in 1973 with distinction as a pupil of Denes Kovacs, has eleven solo records in his name by the Hungaroton label. He has also won the Leo Weiner sonata competition and was the winner of the Hungarian Radio's violin competition in 1975.

Besides Miklos, who doubles up as a performer in the orchestra, world famous Italian cellist Judit Faludi is a main attraction.  She graduated in 1994 from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music where she was a student of Csaba Onczay. After completing her studies she was a member of the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House for years. Since 2000 she has been a regular participant on the Hungarian music scene, appearing regularly in the Academy of Music, in concerts in Parliament building and in Hungarian Radio. In March 2007 she is a soloist in the series of concerts for the Hungarian Days. Her master instrument was made by the famous Italian instrument-maker Gagliano

“Instrumental virtuosity … performance was scintillating, exciting & truly outstanding.”
