Young Artist Competition 2011 Announces Winners of Prizes
On May 4, 2011 eighteen very talented student musicians performed for scholarship consideration at Alden Memorial Hall on the Worcester Polytechnic campus. From 2 PM until close to 6 PM several pianists, one cellist, two violinists, one oboe player, and several clarinet players played before a panel of judges. The total number participating was 18 - one student performed on two different instruments.
The first prize, The Music Guild Prize for $1100 was awarded to 12 year-old Zlatomir Fung, a student at the Mill Pond School in Westborough. His cello teacher is Emmanuel Feldman.Zlatomir Fung
The Sylvia Gafvert Stubblebine Scholarship has three prize levels.
The first prize is for $900 and was won by 15 year-old Felix Chen, a Shrewsbury High School student and clarinet student with Vladimir Vaskevich of the Joy of Music Program in Worcester. Felix also performed on piano for the competition and has participated with the Worcester and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra programs.
The second level of Stubblebine Scholarship, at $650, was won by 17 year-old Lydia Consilvio of Auburn. This is the second year in a row that Lydia has won this prize. She is a student of Joe Halko and also is a reed maker. She has performed with the Worcester and Boston Youth Symphonies and the 2010 Massachusetts All State Orchestra. Lydia Consilvio.
The third Stubblebine Prize was won by 17 year-old Fitchburg High School student Cynthia Schilling. Cynthia is a piano student with Roy Imperio of the Thayer Performing Arts Center at Atlantic Union College. Cynthia is also a previous winner of the Stubblebine prize.
