Music Worcester invites audiences of all ages and experience levels to engage with music – and frequently that work happens outside of the concert hall. In addition to our hallmark Artist-in-Residence program, we also reach learners of all ages through in-school visits, masterclasses, podcasts, and pre-show talks.

In-School Visits

Whenever possible, we pair musicians visiting Worcester for a concert with local schools. Musicians work directly with students, coaching on broad topics including rehearsal techniques, musicianship practices, and specific skills like improving the intonation of a brass section or maximizing bowings in a violin section.

Sometimes the professional and student musician interaction is extended and the students have the opportunity to perform on stage with the visiting ensembles during the Music Worcester concert.

In 2024-2025, we visited the following the schools:

  • Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School
  • Auburn High School
  • Burncoat Middle and High Schools
  • Forest Grove Middle School
  • South High Community School
  • Westborough High School.

Discounted & Free Tickets

In addition to providing these in-school experiences, Music Worcester regularly works with schools in the greater Worcester community to provide reduced price and free ticketing to students, allowing expanded access for these students and their families to live music performances by world-renowned musicians.

Beyond the Classroom

In addition to pre-concert talks held before select performances, we have also created on-demand video talks for some concerts, Chris Shepard regularly speaks at Worcester Institute for Senior Education (WISE) classes, and other unique opportunities to engage with artists.
