Part of Bach’s Birthday Bash Weekend
In Music Worcester’s third annual Cantatathon, three ensembles perform a selection of five cantatas at Mechanics Hall. This year’s performance features local singers as well as out-of-state groups excited by the project.
- All Saints Choir (Worcester, MA)
- The Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges (Pennsylvania)
- WPI Chorus (Worcester, MA)
Cantatas, vocal works for solo/chorus and orchestra, celebrate sacred or secular traditions – holidays, birthdays, parties. These works are conversations between voice and instrument and are meant to spotlight the technical abilities of the performer. Over the course of THE COMPLETE BACH’s eleven years, ensembles will present each of Bach’s 200+ cantatas. At intermission, join us for cake and champagne in honor of Bach’s 342nd birthday.
Program
In allen meinen Taten, BWV 97

All Saints Choir
At the heart of the church’s musical activity, the All Saints Choir provides music for the liturgy at Eucharist every Sunday. The choir also sings monthly Choral Evensong and occasionally Choral Compline and Taizé services, as well as on major feast days, weddings, funerals, and concerts. Historically based around the Men and Boy choir model, the All Saints Choir currently maintains an intergenerational roster with treble choristers (age 8-18) of all genders leading the soprano part, changed-voice teen choristers singing tenor and bass, and adult volunteers singing soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.
Entry to the choir is by audition, and the young choristers start their training with a probationary period of one to two years, when they learn about the routines and repertoire of the choir and are given a firm grounding in vocal technique and sight-reading. The weekly training is augmented by a yearly choir camp in August. This training has led several generations of graduates to notable careers in music and other fields, both within the Worcester community and beyond. The choir alumni association actively supports music at All Saints.
In addition to its weekly liturgical offerings at All Saints, the choir has also performed at Washington National Cathedral, New York City’s Carnegie Hall and St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue, as well as venues elsewhere in the United States and Canada. The choir’s most recent tours were to New York City (2024), Montreal (2017), and Ireland (2013). The choir is proud of the musical connections that they maintain, especially their affiliation with the Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester and The Royal School of Church Music in America. Founded in 1868, the choir’s 150th anniversary (2018) was celebrated June of 2019. Click here for photos of the choir from the archive! Learn more about our Music Teachers and Volunteers here. Since August of 2021, Kevin Neel has led the All Saints Choir as the Director of Music and Organist at All Saints Church.

The Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges
The Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges, a mixed choir of approximately 28 voices, perform challenging repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the present day in a variety of languages and styles. In addition to students majoring in music and those studying voice privately, the ensemble also attracts students from other majors who wish to perform challenging choral music in an intimate setting. The Chamber Singers regularly collaborate with arts organizations and colleges throughout the northeastern United States and frequently explore music from cultures that are not widely represented in the greater choral world. The group has undertaken numerous foreign and domestic tours, including a tour to Finland and the Baltic States in 2026.

Mechanics Hall
321 Main Street Worcester, MA 01608
Mechanics Hall, built in 1857, is a four-story structure that remains an incredible venue for live music. Renowned for its acoustics, it is located in downtown Worcester just blocks away from Route 290.
SEATING
Seating in the floor level of the Great Hall is accessible via elevator, by the Waldo St. entrance to the building. The balcony is not accessible by elevator. Read more about accessibility here.
We suggest parties with small children sit in our side balconies whenever possible, as they provide the best view for small children who may not have a clear view from the flat seating on the floor level.
Balcony seating has less leg room. If you’re a taller patron, we recommend floor seating or choosing an aisle seat in the balcony section.
PARKING
The closest parking garage is Pearl Elm Garage (20 Pearl St.) Music Worcester offers free parking for Mechanics Hall presentations – read more here. There is also on-street parking on neighboring streets.
