Keeping The Tradition Alive!

The holiday season may not be the same without our annual Messiah performance– but instead, YOU can be part of the tradition!  Our presentation features a quartet of (socially distanced) soloists from the Connecticut Choral Artists (CONCORA) leading us in a sing-along of Handel’s beloved masterpiece.  They will sing the entire Christmas portion, as well as all the choruses from Parts II and III, joined by a chamber ensemble from the Worcester Festival Orchestra.  You can sing along at home, or just enjoy the festive music!

This event is hosted by three ensembles whose annual Messiah performances have been sidelined this year– the Worcester Chorus, whose tradition began in 1900… the Masterwork Chorus of New Jersey, who have been performing the work each year at Carnegie Hall for more than half a century… and CONCORA, Connecticut’s oldest professional choir.  All three choirs have performed in Worcester’s beautiful Mechanics Hall, the site of this year’s Virtual Messiah Sing.  We hope you can join us for this live event and help us keep the tradition alive.

Tickets to enjoy the On Demand presentation are $10.  You will be emailed a link to view the event after your purchase.

Handel's Messiah Through the Ages

Music Worcester is pleased to present a special opportunity this December – an audio-visual, pre-concert experience detailing the historical development of this oratorio from 1741 down to the present day. This collaboration between Prof. Megan Ross‘s “Introduction to Music” class at the College of the Holy Cross and Music Worcester features a local perspective on this work with interviews from members of the Worcester Chorus.  A link will be provided here prior to December 13 – please check back soon!

For Conductors

If you would like to use a recording of the live event for your own virtual rehearsal with your choir, we will make a recording available between December 15th and 24th.  You can find information about this project and purchase a Conductor ticket at the link below.

These ears have rarely encountered so glorious a version as that presented at Mechanics Hall as part of Music Worcester’s 160th anniversary season.
